UAE Hits Clean Energy Milestone: 27.83% of Total Energy Mix UAE’s ambitious clean energy goals see significant progress as renewable capacity grows by 70% in 2022

Clean Energy Surge in the Emirates

The UAE has achieved a remarkable milestone in its journey towards sustainable energy, with clean sources now accounting for 27.83% of the country’s total energy mix. This significant leap brings the nation closer to its 2030 target of 30% clean energy production, as announced by Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei.

The fully operational Barakah nuclear power plant, coupled with substantial investments in solar energy, has propelled this green revolution. From 2019 to 2022, the UAE successfully doubled its renewable energy capacity, aligning with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.

Ambitious Projects and Investments

The UAE government is not resting on its laurels. With plans to invest between Dh150 billion and Dh200 billion by 2030, the country aims to meet growing energy demands while fostering economic growth. Key projects include the 1.8 gigawatts phase VI of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, Dubai’s second phase waste-to-energy project, and two major photovoltaic installations in Abu Dhabi – the 1.5 gigawatts Al Ajban and Al Khazna projects.

Additionally, Adnoc is spearheading carbon capture and storage technologies, targeting a capacity of 10 million tonnes annually by 2030. This initiative forms a crucial part of the company’s goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2045.

The UAE’s commitment to clean energy extends beyond domestic borders. As the first Gulf country to pledge net-zero emissions by 2050, the nation has unveiled a Dh600 billion plan to invest in clean and renewable energy sources over the next three decades. This bold strategy positions the UAE as a leader in the global transition to sustainable energy.
