UAE Set to Host Groundbreaking BioTech Symposium
The United Arab Emirates is preparing to host a landmark BioTech Symposium, marking a significant step in the country’s journey from oil to medicine. Scheduled for November 6-8, 2024, the event will bring together biotech pioneers from around the world to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Dr. Kambiz Shekdar, PhD, a Rockefeller University BioTech Inventor, will chair the symposium. In a surprising move, Dr. Shekdar has retracted his personal ban on Israel, extending an invitation to Israeli participants in honor of a request from a former classmate.
Bridging Science and Innovation
The symposium, hosted at Masdar City with registration through AmCham Abu Dhabi, aims to foster collaboration and innovation in the biotech sector. Dr. Shekdar, the first U.S. Biotech Abu Dhabi Golden Visa Inventor, brings his expertise in Chromovert® Technology to the event.
His vision includes creating a joint venture with Emirati stakeholders to implement a national-level public-private partnership for drug discovery in the UAE. This aligns with the country’s ambition to diversify its economy and become a hub for scientific research and medical innovation.
Building International Partnerships
The UAE BioTech Symposium, in partnership with the AmCham Abu Dhabi BioTech Committee and Masdar City, plans to host quarterly panel discussions and lab tours across the GCC and Middle East. These events aim to prioritize U.S. and international BioTech owners and executives, fostering global connections and knowledge exchange.
By bringing together diverse expertise and resources, the symposium represents a significant step in the UAE’s journey towards becoming a global leader in biotechnology. It showcases the country’s commitment to scientific advancement and its potential to drive innovation in the medical field, marking a new chapter in the UAE’s economic and scientific development.
