Will Dubai Airport lose all Passport Control?

Dubai Airports Set to Revolutionize Travel Experience

Dubai is poised to transform the airport experience with its innovative ‘Travel Without Borders’ project. This groundbreaking initiative will eliminate all physical passport control and smart gates, replacing them with advanced facial recognition technology.

Seamless Journey Through Artificial Intelligence

The new system will utilize AI-powered facial recognition cameras to scan travellers as they move through the airport. This technology will confirm biometric data, identify individuals, and officially register arrivals and departures without requiring passengers to stop or present any documents.

Lieutenant Colonel Khaled bin Madia Al Falasi from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) emphasized that there will be no counters, stations, gates, or immigration officers at passport control areas. Travellers will simply walk through, experiencing a truly seamless journey.

Phased Implementation and Future Expansion

The ‘Travel Without Borders’ project will be implemented soon at all terminals of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC). Initially, the service will be available to business and first-class passengers before expanding to all travellers in departure and arrival halls.

For first-time visitors to Dubai airports, a pre-registration process will be available through an app. This one-time registration will allow travellers to use the new system on subsequent visits, further streamlining the travel experience.

This innovative approach to border control demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and traveller convenience, setting a new standard for airports worldwide.
